Disney Releases Updated 2024 Release Schedule- Where Are ‘Andor’ and ‘Win or Lose’?
The Walt Disney Company has released an updated 2024 release schedule, but strangely enough, the new slate may create more questions than answers.
With the studio still reeling from the effects of the SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes this year, 2024 is shaping up to be a lighter year for Disney than years past.
Additionally, the streaming series that we had hoped would debut next year is nowhere to be found on the calendar. So, let’s dive in and take a closer look.
Marvel Studios
While Marvel Studios will only release one theatrical film next year (Deadpool 3 on July 26), the studio will have its fair share of new streaming releases.
The first Marvel Spotlight series, Echo, will debut on January 10, 2024, and the WandaVision spin-off Agatha: Darkhold Diaries will land in the fall.
Based on the latest release schedule, however, 2024 may be the biggest year in decades for Marvel animation.
Marvel Studios is set to debut three new animated series next year. The most anticipated of the triumvirate will be the X-Men the Animated Series reboot X-Men 97.
Joining X-Men 97 on the release schedule are the Black Panther-themed Eyes of Wakanda and Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man.
Interstingly, previously announced MCU series, including Daredevil: Born Again, Wonder Man, and Iron Heart, are not on the schedule, indicating that they will debut in 2025 at the earliest.
Star Wars
Like Marvel, Star Wars is poised to have a big year on streaming, even if the next theatrical release in the franchise is still years away.
The story of the Bad Batch will continue when Season 3 hits Disney+ next year. The animated series will be joined by Star Wars: The Acolyte, which will take viewers back to the High Republic era, and Star Wars: Skeleton Crew, which will connect to The Mandalorian universe.
Finally, animation fans will be happy to hear that Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi is slated to return for a second season. All four Star Wars streaming series have yet to have a release date announced.
Andor, which was expected to return in 2024, does not appear on the schedule at all. By the looks of things, the second season of the hit streaming series has been pushed back to 2025.
Pixar
Turning our attention to Pixar, the animation studio is set to release Inside Out 2 on June 14.
With the delay of Ello, Joy, Sadness, and the rest of Riley’s emotions will have to hold down the box office for Pixar.
Interstingly, however, Pixar’s first streaming series, Win or Lose, does not appear on the updated schedule.
The series was initially set to debut in December 2023 before it was pushed back a year. Now, its release status seems to be in doubt.
Walt Disney Animation
Last but not least, we have Walt Disney Animation.
Following the Wish disaster, Disney Animation was set to return to the box office next year with an unnamed film.
However, the latest version of the studio’s release schedule omits any reference to an animated movie.
Disney still has Mufasa: The Lion King slated for a December 20th theatrical release, but overall, it will be an extremely light year for the studio.
As always, Disney could make changes to its 2024. For now, however, it looks like the studio will rely on Marvel and Star Wars next year.
