‘Deadpool 3’ Named Most Anticipated Movie of 2024
2023 was undeniably a disappointing year for Marvel Studios.
The year began with Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania collapsing in its second weekend and failing to live up to Marvel’s box office standards.
Then, in March, Loki star Jonathan Majors, who was set to permeate the future of the MCU as Kang, was arrested and charged with domestic assault.
While Marvel managed to rebound with the always reliable Guardians of the Galaxy, the studio’s struggles continued when Secret Invasion began, the lowest-rated Marvel Studios production to date.
Then, in November, The Marvels imploded at the box office, becoming the lowest-grossing film in MCU history.
Changing Course
After a year of turmoil and setbacks, Marvel is reevaluating how it makes both television and movies.
On the streaming front, the studio will streamline its production process, hiring showrunners and creating series using a more traditional method.
Additionally, the studio unveiled its new Marvel Spotlight banner, which will feature “street-level” characters and tell stories that don’t require the audience to be caught up on their MCU history. The first fruit of these labors will be Echo, which will hit Disney+ early next year.
On the movie front, Marvel is slowing down its production and will reportedly focus on quality over quantity.
In fact, the studio will only release one film next year, Deadpool 3, perhaps giving Marvel’s creatives a chance to breathe.
‘Deadpool 3’ Named Most Anticipated Film
While Deadpool 3 will be forced to carry the Marvel banner alone next year, the studio got some good news today. Deadpool 3 was revealed to be the most anticipated movie of 2024 by Fandango.
According to a survey of 8,000 Fandango users, Marvel still reigns supreme. Deadpool 3 beat out a slew of blockbusters, including Beetlejuice 2, Ghostbusters, Frozen Empire, Dune: Part Two, Venon 3, and Inside Out 2, to claim the top spot.
If Deadpool 3 can live up to its lofty expectations, all may be right again in the world of Marvel. Hopefully, Ryan Reynolds and friends can deliver.
