‘Secret Invasion’s Final Episode Was The Lowest Rated MCU Show Ever
Before we get started, I want to make one thing clear, this article may contain Secret Invasion spoilers. So, if you haven’t seen the final episode of the series stop reading now! This is your final warning.
The latest episode of Marvel’s Disney+ series of Secret Invasion has become the worst-rated MCU episode in the studio’s history.
The final episode of the series saw Nick Fury and G’iah confront Gravik once and for all, ending in an epic battle between the two super-Skrulls.
Episode 6 wrapped up a series that has been maligned by critics and fans alike for its writing, use of CGI, and waste of the Secret Invasion story.
Expectations Were High
Expectations for Secret Invasion were high prior to the show’s debut.
Picking up on the story that began in Captain Marvel, the show saw a very different Nick Fury return to Earth to stop the impending Skrull invasion.
In addition to Samuel L. Jackson, the show saw actors Don Cheadle and Ben Mendelsohn reprise their roles as Rhodey and Talos respectively.
While the results of the first five episodes were middling at best, fans held out hope that a strong finale could redeem the show.
After all, Samuel L. Jackson and co-star Olivia Colman both named Episode 6 as the episode that would captivate fans the most.
“The last [episode] is sooo good,” Jackson said.
Lowest Rated Marvel Show Ever
While fans were hoping for Secret Invasion to end on a high note, that did not happen.
Instead, audiences were treated to a CGI battle that felt mostly superfluous.
While critics largely praised the acting of stars Samuel L. Jackosn, Ben Mendelsohn, Emilia Clarke, and Olivia Coleman, the show was overall labeled as a missed opportunity.
“Secret Invasion ultimately ended up feeling like the first of the Disney+ MCU series that’s best left ignored and forgotten entirely,” wrote Jeffrey Lyles.
Episode 6 of Secret Invasion received a terrible 11% approval rating from critics.
In the end, Secret Invasion will have its defenders and its detractors. The series also did a good job of setting up The Marvels before it arrived in theaters this fall.
With that being said, following the critically acclaimed She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, Secret Invasion failed to sustain Marvel’s Disney+ momentum.
