‘Spider-Man: Freshman Year’ Gets a Name Change Ahead of 2024 Debut
Just as Marvel Studios gets set to slow down its production and focus on quality over quantity, we may be entering the new golden age of Marvel animation.
In addition to Season 2 of What If…?, which is set to debut this month, Marvel Studios also has a reboot of X-Men the Animated Series, the Black Panther-centered Eyes of Wakanda, and the highly-anticipated Spider-Man: Freshman Year on the docket.
Spider-Man: Freshman Year
The latter series is set to debut in 2024 and introduce audiences to a version of Peter Parker set in an alternate MCU timeline.
The animated series was written and produced by Jeff Trammel. The new show will follow Peter Parker on his journey to becoming Spider-Man. Additionally, the series will feature an animation style that celebrates the character’s early comic book history. The show is also said to take place before the events of Captain America: Civil War.
Spider-Man: Freshman Year will star Hudson Thames as Peter Parker. Interestingly, it will also feature Charlie Cox reprising his role as Matt Murdock/Daredevil. Thames previously voiced Spider-Man in an episode of What If…?
Another Marvel Name Change
Ahead of the show’s release next year, Marvel announced that Spider-Man: Freshman Year has been renamed Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man.
While it is unclear if the name change has anything to do with the content of the series, it is interesting to see the show’s title shift away from the school aspect of Peter Parker’s life.
While we do not have a release date for Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, we should see the animated series debut next year. The series will stream exclusively on Disney+.
