Boat Transportation to Disney Springs Has Been Paused Due to Declining Water Depth
Perhaps the most underrated transportation system in all of Walt Disney World is the Sassagoula River boats.
While other guests are vying for a room at one of the Disney Skyliner resorts or pining to be on the Magic Kingdom monorail line, my favorite place to be is on the banks of the Sassagoula.
For those who don’t know, the waterway runs from Disney’s Port Orleans Resorts, past Saratoga Springs and Old Key West, and to Disney Springs.
Traveling to Disney Springs by boat is truly one of the more enjoyable ways to get around Walt Disney World, and it remains a hidden gem of the resort.
Water Transporation to Disney Springs Has Been Paused
Unfortunately, guests staying on the Sassagoula River will be unable to take advantage of the boat system, as all water transportation to and from Disney Springs has been paused.
According to Cast Members we talked to, the boat transportation has been paused indefinitely. Apparently, water levels have dropped to dangerous depths.
With the Sassagoula River having lost close to a foot of water, it is unsafe for the boats to run at this time.
In lieu of the water taxis, Disney is running buses to and from the affected resorts and Disney Springs.
New signage at the docks directs guests to the bus stops, which are located between the Orange and Lime parking garages at Town Center.
When Will the Boats Set Sail Again?
At this time, it is unclear how long the Disney Springs boats will be docked for.
The Cast Member we talked to noted that there was no rain in the foreseeable future. This means that boat transportation will remain paused.
What About the Boathouse?
If you are planning a trip to Disney Springs to take a ride in an Amphicar, have no fear. The Boathouse says that the Amphicars will continue running as they are small enough to sail in the shallow water.
