Outdoor Canopies Nearing Completion on Magic Kingdom’s TRON Coaster
Now that we’ve got an official opening date for Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind at EPCOT, all eyes are on another upcoming Disney World attraction – the TRON Coaster at Magic Kingdom!
We’ve been following construction on this attraction for a few years now!
Today we’re back an aboard the Tomorrowland Transit Authority PeopleMover to check up on the progress of this EPIC build.
Crews are still hard at work covering up the segment of the exposed outdoor canopies.
Once completed, guests will zoom from the inside portion of the coaster to the outer open air canopies.
Special lighting effects will give riders the impression that you’re sailing through cyberspace just like in the films.
In these photos you can see the point where the coaster enters the outside.
Some exterior work is till being done to the attraction. Siding still needs to go up along one of the entryways.
As well as work to the landscaping and guest walkways to the attraction.
Last week we shared some images with you of a tunnel that has been constructed to run underneath the TRON coaster!
This will be for the Walt Disney World Railroad which has also been on hiatus while TRON construction has been underway.
The new coaster obstructs the original railroad tracks so a tunnel is a fun solution.
For those unfamiliar, the TRON Coaster sits next to Space Mountain and the Tomorrowland Speedway.
If you’ll be visiting Disney over Easter and want to check out the progress for yourself we recommend hopping on the PeopleMover.
You can get incredible views from the raised PeopleMover track.
Another great spot is near The Barnstormer in Storybook Circus which provides a slightly different vantage point.
Above you can see one of the guest ramps for the ride.
As of going to print, Disney has yet to announce an opening date for TRON.
This is a story that we will continue to follow closely and we promise to keep you posted!
In the meantime, we do get to the parks regularly so expect more photo updates from us .
We are so excited to see this project come together.
There were teams of Imagineers onsite this afternoon scoping out the work being done!
We were watching them survey the area.
We can’t stress how massive this coaster is going to be once completed.
It really dominates the skyline in the Tomorrowland area of the park.
Here you can see teams looking at the lower areas of the attraction.
Long concrete dividers are in place which we suspect are for queueing.
We wonder what important decisions are being made by crew members as we glide by!
TRON Lightcycle Run draws its inspiration not only from the films but also from the headlining Shanghai Disneyland attraction.
Rather than traditional coaster cars, guests will board lightcycles to zoom through cyberspace.
Its a very innovative concept and like Shanghai we’re sure this ride will quickly become a fan favorite.
In these images you can see workers anchored to the domes as they finish laying the covering on the canopies.
We admire their bravery in climbing up to such lengths to complete the project.
It is definitely no easy feat!
The completed portion of the canopy next to it will give you an idea of what the finished product will look like.
Its very smooth and streamlined!
Hopefully we’ll hear word about an opening date soon!
