‘The Acolyte’s’ Amandla Stenberg Talks John Williams’ Iconic Score and Her Love of the Prequel Trilogy
Not only does longtime Star Wars fan Amandla Stenberg get to enter the galaxy far, far away herself in the upcoming Disney+ series The Acolyte, but she also got to show off her musical talent.
In a new promotional video for the soon-to-be-released Star Wars series, Stenberg takes center stage with her violin, playing an arrangement of John Williams’ iconic Star Wars score.
At The Acolyte premiere in Los Angeles on Thursday, Stenberg reflected on the video, calling it “one of those opportunities that I will hold with me for the rest of my entire life.”
“I listened to the score so much when we were filming, and then when Disney came to me and said ‘Hey, we’d love for you to play it,’ I thought, ‘OK, that’s terrifying.’ But then I worked on the sheet music and John [Williams] agreed to it and gave me a version that was just for solo violin,” she told The Hollywood Reporter. “There are just certain circumstances in life that are just so bizarre that bring you to blessings that you would never anticipate and that was such a special moment in my life.”
Growing Up With The Prequels
In the leadup to The Acolyte, Stenberg has been open that her Star Wars fandom began with the prequel trilogy.

“It really started with the prequel series, because that’s the age range that I fall into. I have a soft spot for… somewhat vaporwave ‘90s content [laughs]. I also am a big Anakin fan. So it starts with the prequel series, watching those when I was younger with my older sister. Which is a controversial opinion, actually, my devotion to the prequels!” Stenberg told Empire.
As The Acolyte will be set 100 years before The Phantom Menace, Stenberg now gets to tell a story that will tie directly into the films that she grew up loving. It is an honor that is not lost on the actress.

“So trippy! [laughs] I don’t think I’ve fully wrapped my head around it yet. I also don’t know all the details. But for me, it was the most dream-like result that I could be within that point in the timeline,” she gushed.
