Jerry Bruckheimer Confirms ‘Pirates of the Caribbean 6’ AND the Margot Robbie Spinoff Are Still in Production
Even if Johnny Depp is not captaining the ship, it sounds like the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise is getting ready to set sail again.
The last we heard about the popular action franchise, Pirates of the Caribbean 6 was in development, but Johnny Depp would not be appearing. Earlier this year, producer Jerry Bruckheimer called the sixth installment in the franchise a reboot.

At the same time, the Margot Robbie-led Pirates of the Caribbean film seemed like it had stalled out and would not come to fruition. Even Robbie herself did not seem to think the film would get made.

“We had an idea, and we were developing it for a while, ages ago, to have more of a female-led — not totally female-led, but just a different kind of story — which we thought would’ve been really cool, but I guess they don’t want to do it,” Robbie told Vanity Fair in November 2022.
BOTH Films Are Still in Production
Interestingly, in a recent interview with EW, Bruckheimer revealed that both Pirates of the Caribbean 6 and the Robbie spinoff are both still in production.
“It’s two different movies,” Bruckheimer explained. “We hope to get ’em both made, and I think Disney agrees they really want to make the Margot one, too.”
Pirates of the Caribbean 6 will be written by The Young Woman and the Sea screenwriter Jeff Nathanson, who also wrote 2017’s Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man Tell No Tales. According to Bruckheimer, the scribe has made significant progress on the script.
“I think he’s cracked it,” Bruckheimer said. “He’s got an amazing third act. We just gotta clean up the first and second and then we’ll get there. But he wrote a great, great third act.”
Will Depp Return?
While Bruckenheimer asserts that Pirates of the Caribbean 6 will be a “reboot” and not feature familiar characters, the producer says he would still love to see Depp return to the franchise.

“It’s a reboot, but if it was up to me, he would be in it,” Bruckheimer says. “I love him. He’s a good friend. He’s an amazing artist and he’s a unique look. He created Captain Jack. That was not on the page, that was him doing a little Pepé Le Pew and Keith Richards. That was his interpretation of Jack Sparrow.”

While it doesn’t sound like Captain Jack Sparrow will be back this time around, the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise will soon return in a big way.
