Earth Day 2024: How Disney Uses Solar Power Around the World
In celebration of Earth Day today, The Walt Disney Company is shining a light on its commitment to solar power.
The company wants to keep its destinations fully energized with a goal of reaching net zero by 2030. The project is part of Disney’s commitment to supporting a healthier planet as part of their Disney Planet Possible initiative. Here are three fun facts about how Disney uses solar power.
Let’s see what Disney has been working on.
Disneyland Paris Houses the Largest Solar Array in Europe
Did you know? Disneyland Paris is home to the largest solar array in Europe.
The resort recently unveiled a new solar canopy plant that produces 36 GWh a year. That is equivalent to the energy consumption of a town of 17,400 people.
That makes the solar array the largest in all of Europe!
The solar canopy also covers the entire guest parking, providing guests with shade and shelter from the weather.
Solar Power in Hong Kong
Meanwhile, in Hong Kong, Disney has reached another solar milestone.
The Hong Kong Disneyland Resort is now home to the largest solar panel site in the city. In total, there are over 47 locations within Hong Kong Disneyland that are covered in 7,500 solar panels. The panels generate over 3 megawatts of solar-powered electricity per year.
Radiator Springs Racers
Last but certainly not least, did you know that a solar array tops Radiator Springs Racers at Disney’s California Adventure?
In total, there are more than 1,400 high-efficiency solar panels soaking up the California sun and helping power Disneyland Resort.
The 40,000-square-foot system could power 100 Anaheim homes a year!
