Disney’s Space Mountain Film Finds Its Screenwriters
Between Sean Bailey stepping down as Disney’s President of Motion Picture Studios and Bob Iger admitting the studio was quietly shelving films that it didn’t believe were working, there was a fear by many that many of the live-action films that Disney had previously announced would never see the light of day.
Bailey’s release strategy was particularly dependent on live-action remakes of animated films and adaptations of Disney Parks attractions. With his replacement, David Greenbaum, known for his work with cutting-edge filmmakers creating Oscar-nominated films, the future of former Bailey projects was suddenly muddled.

While we don’t know the status of any of the previously released live-action films, we now know that Disney’s Space Mountain adaptation is still a go!
Space Mountain Gets Its Screenwriters
According to a report from the Hollywood Reporter today, action writers Josh Appelbaum and Andre Nemec, the team behind Amazon’s high-profile spy series Citadel, have been tapped to write the film.

Josh Eirich from Rideback, the banner behind Netflix’s live-action Avatar: The Last Airbender series, will be producing the film.
A Space Mountain film was originally announced in 2020, with Joby Harold attached to produce and write the film alongside Tony Tunnell.
Good News for Other Attraction-Based Movies
At this time, we don’t know a lot about what the Space Mountain film will entail. The fact that the film is still in production, however, likely bodes well for other previously announced Disney attraction live-action films such as Scarlet Johannson’s Tower of Terror and perhaps even Jungle Cruise 2.
