With ‘Obi-Wan Kenobi’ Officially at an End, Ewan McGregor Discusses His Star War Future
With the physical media release of Obi-Wan Kenobi seemingly confirming that the show will not return for a second season, Ewan McGregor’s future in the Star Wars universe has suddenly become more clouded.
Despite the actor’s clear willingness to return as Obi-Wan, there is no production currently that would be a natural fit for him to appear in.
McGregor Talks Star Wars
In a recent interview with LADbible, however, McGregor continued to say that he would love to play Kenobi, although Lucasfilm has not called him yet.
“The truth is I’ve talked about having to cover for doing the Obi-Wan season for years, I had to lie about that and I’m not lying about this now. I don’t know. There’s been no phone call to me from Lucasfilm or Disney saying, ‘Let’s do another one’. Obi-Wan was made as a limited series and it’s out and people like it, which I’m very, very pleased about,” said McGregor.
“I love doing it. I hope we get a chance to do another one and I’m sure we will. I’m pretty sure, you know, I’ve got a few years yet before I’m the same age as Alec Guinness was in A New Hope. So there’s time to tell more stories in there.”
Lucasfilm Should Utilize the Actor While They Can
In order for McGregor to return, Lucasfilm would likely have to develop a new project set in the Imperial era. With rumors swirling that an Asajj Ventress series could be in development, Kenobi’s return could fit there.
Still, With McGregor willing to play Kenobi again, and the character perhaps the most popular in all of Star Wars, Lucasfilm would be squandering the opportunity if they don’t create something for the actor’s return.
Hopefully, we will see McGregor don his Jedi robe sooner than later.
