It Doesn’t Look Like ‘Obi-Wan Kenobi’ Season 2 is Happening
While Ewan McGregor and castmates have done their best to keep hope alive that Obi-Wan Kenobi would return for a second season, yesterday’s announcement that the series was coming to DVD and Blu-ray may have been the final nail in the show’s coffin.
While Star Wars fans were understandably excited to hear that the hit Disney+ series was getting a physical media release, many were quick to point out that the sets were labeled “Obi-Wan Kenobi: The Complete Series.”
Like WandaVision before it, Disney seems to have definitively stated that Obi-Wan Kenobi has ended its run in the way that it labeled the series’ physical media release.
McGregor Wanted ‘Obi-Wan’ to Continue
Just last month, Ewan McGregor publicly stated that he would be open to continuing the series.
“I would love to do the second season, but there’s no talk of it yet,” McGregor said as recently as late January, noting: “There is a lot going on at Disney.”
While director Deborah Chow has also spoken about her willingness to continue the limited series’ story, Kathleen Kennedy has repeatedly stated that the show will not continue.
“But I never say never, because there’s always the possibility. That show was so well-received and [director] Deborah Chow did such a spectacular job. Ewan McGregor really wants to do another…We’ll turn our attention to that again maybe down the road.”
End of the Line
Despite the continual fan support and McGregor’s wish to continue Obi-Wan’s story, it looks like the series has, in fact, concluded.
Still, as Kennedy said, Lucasfilm would be foolish not to capitalize on McGregor’s eagerness to play Obi-Wan again. Perhaps then, we will see the legendary appear in a different context.
