Giancarlo Esposito Wants to Return to Star Wars — Here’s How it is Possible
Before the re-introduction of Grand Admiral Thrawn in Ahsoka, Giancarlo Esposito’s Moff Gideon was the primary antagonist in the Star Wars era of the New Republic.
The former Imperial officer and one-time wielder of the Darksaber was introduced to audiences in Season 1 of The Mandalorian. A member of the Shadow Council, Gideon attempted to and eventually succeeded in capturing Grogu for use as a blood donor for his cloning experiments.
After Din Djarin and his allies thwarted Gideon, he was taken into custody by the New Republic.
In Season 3 of The Mandalorian, it was revealed that Gideon had escaped custody and resumed his cloning project on Mandalore. Eventually, the Imperial warlord was killed by the Mandalorian resistance.
Esposito Says He “Loves” Star Wars
Although his character died at the end of the last season of The Mandalorian, Espositio affirmed in a recent video with GQ that he would love to return to the Star Wars universe.
“I love the Star Wars universe,” he answered. “I don’t have any plans because they haven’t called me.”
Considering his character was killed in The Mandalorian Season 3 finale, it would be surprising to see Esposito return. Still, the actor believes there is a way.
“Come on. I came back to the third season [of The Mandalorian]. I didn’t have a mustache. Then you see all these clones. Put it together,” he quipped.
The Future of ‘The Mandalorian’
Interestingly, perhaps the biggest impediment to Esposito’s return is the uncertain future of The Mandalorian. With the announcement that The Mandalorian & Grogu is coming to theaters, the future of the streaming series remains unclear.

Mandalorian
The first three seasons of The Mandalorian are now streaming on Disney+.
