Shanghai Disneyland Shows Us What Social Distancing Might Look Like At The Theme Parks
Over the past few weeks, we here at MickeyBlog have been doing a lot of speculating in terms of what the theme parks of the future might look like after they re-open in a COVID-19 world. What does this mean for park entry? social distancing? Will there be health screenings etc?
A tweet that an insider at Shanghai Disneyland posted recently may give us some insights, let’s take a look:
Breaking: Since school re-open date confirmed by gov, the park speed up internal testing. Today is indoors theatre ,CM guests are seated every other row, each family group separated by some seats #ShanghaiDisneyland #SHDL #上海ディズニーランド #Disney #Disneypark #Disneyland pic.twitter.com/T99yrIm5D5

As you can see from the tweet above, @gourmetdyy says that Shanghai Disneyland is currently in the process of going over safety procedures with CMs- particularly when it comes to indoor theater seating.
According to this report above, methods are being tested that would promote social distancing. This includes skipping rows in the theaters as well as keeping families separated with seats in between.
This is the first we are hearing about actual strategies being implemented at the theme parks. Like other Disney theme parks around the world, Shanghai Disneyland theme park is currently closed. However, there have been limited operations at Wishing Star Park at Shanghai Disneyland Hotel.
It is possible that Shanghai may be one of the first Disney parks to resume operations post COVID-19 shutdowns. This means that many of the policies and procedures put in place with COVID-19 in mind will inform similar policies stateside.
