Daisy Ridley Says “There Weren’t Many Offers Coming In” After ‘Rise of Skywalker’
While Daisy Ridley reached untold height of popularity thanks to her performance as Rey Skywalker, things were not always easy after she finished her Star Wars run.
Although the sequel trilogy proved to be divisive among fans, for a younger generation Rey Skwalker IS Star Wars. Like Mark Hamill and Hayden Christensen before her, however, Ridley soon found that becoming a Jedi legend has its downside.

“There weren’t that many offers coming in,” Ridley said during a Sunday panel at SXSW in Austin. “It’s not that there wasn’t any…I remember finishing and thinking, ‘Oh, it’s quiet and strange.’”
Out of ‘Star Wars’ and Into COVID
Just as Ridley was emerging from the Star Wars bubble, the entire world went into lockdown due to the advent of the COVID-19 pandemic.
“So it was a very strange time to sit with the quiet and, honestly, grieving a time of my life,” she said.
Despite starring, gaining international renown for her performance as Rey Skywalker, and establishing herself as a hero to millions of young fans, according to Ridley, she didn’t really feel comfortable in the role until her 2019’s The Rise of Skywalker.

“It took, honestly, making the third film till I felt like, ‘OK, I’m good. I deserve to be here,’” she said.
Daisy Ridley is Back
Over the past few years, however, Ridley says, “It’s been really busy and amazing, and I’ve got to do so many different things for so many different people.”
Not only is Ridley set to return as Rey Skywalker for a feature film being directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chin, but she is also currently promoting her film The Marsh King’s Daughter, and her Disney+ movie Young Woman and the Sea is now set to get a theatrical release.
After some dark years, things are finally looking up again for Daisy Ridley.
