Tim Blake Nelson Says Marvel Fans Will Appreciate The Leader in ‘Captain America: Brave New World’
While Captain America: Brave New World is set to see the return of a slew of Marvel stars including Anthony Mackie’s Captain America, Danny Ramierz’s Falcon, Carl Lumbly as Isaiah Bradley and Liv Tyler as Betsy Ross, the film will also introduce some new faces into the MCU.
Most notably, Harrison Ford is set to join the Marvel world, assuming the role of Thunderbolt Ross from the late William Hurt.
When it comes to the characters, the biggest introduction will be The Leader.
Introducing The Leader to the MCU
The gamma-enhanced villain has been a foil of the Incredible Hulk for decades but has yet to appear in the MCU. That will change when Captain America: Brave New World introduces the villain, who will be portrayed by Tim Blake Nelson.
In a recent interview with Comic Book Movie, Nelson was adament that fans will approve of the film’s take on the Leader.
“Really excited. I had a great time filming it,” Nelson stated. “And [I] worked with the Marvel team and this wonderful makeup artist named David Atherton with whom I’ve collaborated on a dozen movies now … I think people are going to be pretty excited about what this guy looks like. And what he has to say and what he does. All power to the amazing team over there at Marvel.”
Who Is the Leader?
Samuel Sterns aka The Leader was originally created by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko for Tales to Astonish. Introduced as the archenemy of the Hulk, the Leader has been a constant thorn in Bruce Banner’s side.
While the Hulk received superhuman strength from his exposure to gamma radiation, Samuel Sterns received superhuman intelligence and a big head to go along with it.
Hopefully, the Leader’s integration into the MCU will go better than the last large-headed supervillain- MODOK.
