Elizabeth Debicki Says She Still Gets Recognized For Her ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ Role
Despite portraying Princess Diana in The Crown, Elizabeth Debicki says she is far more often recognized for her role as the golden leader of the Sovereign people, Ayesha, in the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise.
On the red carpet of the 20th SAG Awards, Debicki revealed that she hardly ever gets recognized as Princess Diana.
“In my real life, I very rarely get recognized as Princess Diana,” Debicki said. “People say, ‘Oh, what do you do?’ ‘Oh I’m an actor.’ ‘What have I seen you in?’ ‘Have you seen The Crown?’ ‘Oh yeah, I love that show.’ It’s like, ‘do I do the next bit…?’ It’s a testament to the crew, the hair and makeup team!”
“Not on my Bingo Card”
Instead, perhaps in a testament to the loyalty of Marvel fans, Debicki gets recognized for her extraterrestrial Guardians of the Galaxy character. The randomness of playing Ayesha is something that Debicki revels in.
“I did play a gold alien queen in Guardians of the Galaxy 2 and 3. Didn’t see that on the bingo card!” the Australian actress told EW’s Patrick Gomez and PEOPLE’s Janine Rubenstein. “I very much enjoyed myself! I enjoy when people think of you in a completely random way. That’s my favorite bit of being an actor.”
While Debicki enjoyed her time in the MCU, it has likely come to an end. Ayesha eventually met her end in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3., when the High Evolutionary decided to destroy Counter-Earth.
Still, for legions of fans, the actress will always be the Golden High Priestess of the Sovereign.
