Marvel’s ‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’ Breaks Streaming Record
Black Panther: Wakanda Forever may be done at the box office, but that doesn’t mean the film is done breaking records.
A Record-Breaking Debut
Wakanda Forever hit Disney+ on February 1st and quickly became the third most streamed movie of all time. The film has recorded 2.269 billion viewing minutes.

The only films to ever do better on streaming were Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery (2.886 billion) and Hocus Pocus 2 (2.725 billion).
Obviously, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever was the Nielsen top-viewed title of the week.

Interestingly, the top five titles of the week were hosted on four different platforms. All four titles recorded over 1 billion viewing minutes, and coming in at number two was Netflix’s You People.
High Praise For Wakanda Forever
Black Panther: Wakanda Forever brought audiences back to the African nation of Wakanda. Following the death of King T’Challa, the royal family must face a new threat in the form of Namor, King of Talokan.

Wakanda Forever was praised by critics and audiences alike, on its way to earning $858.5 million at the box office.
The performances of returning stars Angela Bassett and Letitia Wright were especially highlighted by critics.

Trouble At the Box Office
With Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania struggling at the box office in its second weekend, Marvel and Disney can take solace in Wakanda Forever‘s strong streaming numbers.
Recent Marvel releases have appeared to be front-loaded at the box office, opening to large numbers before tailing off.
While it appears that Marvel’s diehard fan base is rushing to theaters to see the latest release as soon as it opens, it is interesting that the films are finding a strong audience on streaming. Could these viewers be the audience that formally flocked to theaters in the weeks following a Marvel film’s release?
