Sam Raimi Shares His Vision For ‘Spider-Man 4’
Despite the fact that the film was officially canceled 13 years ago, rumors have continued to swirl that Spider-Man 4, starring Tobey Maguire, could still be made.
The latest iteration of the rumor began in earnest when Thomas Haden Church, who portrayed Sandman in Spider-Man 3, said that he had heard that Sam Raimi was working on the fourth installment in the franchise.
While Raimi later clarified that he had not spoken to Marvel or Maguire about a possible Spider-Man 4, that has not prevented the speculation from persisting.
Raimi Talks ‘Spider-Man 4’
In a recent interview with TheWrap, Raimi once again stated that he is not working on a Spider-Man 4, but he would like to make the film.
“I don’t have any plans. But I would love it!”
If, hypothetically, Raimi was to create another Tobey Maguire Spider-Man film, he says he would need to determine what Peter’s “personal growth” would look like.
“I haven’t because I’d have to know what the next thing that character has to learn. I’d have to talk with Tobey, and the writers, and really figure out what his personal growth for this episode would be,” said Raimi.
“I think if we were to make a fourth ‘Spider-Man’ film, we’d probably have to figure out the journey that Tobey Maguire [and] his character would be going on. What obstacles he had to overcome to achieve that growth personally. And I hope that the villain would be chosen based on a representation of that obstacle.”
The Future is Uncertain
While it doesn’t sound like a Spider-Man 4 is in the works at this time, there seems to be a lot of talk about the film.
With Kirsten Dunst and Sam Raimi both stating they are open to returning to the franchise and Tobey Maguire recently reprising his iconic role in Spider-Man: Far From Home, perhaps Spider-Man 4 is not as far-fetched as it once seemed.
