A Tribute to Rolly Crump Will Be Added to the Disney Treasure’s Haunted Mansion Parlor
Inside the Disney Treasure’s Haunted Mansion parlor, The Walt Disney Company is paying tribute to Disney Legend Rolly Crump, who passed away last year at the age of 93.
Among Crump’s numerous achievements as a member of WED Enterprises was the central effort he took in creating the Haunted Mansion.
Now, six decades later, the Haunted Mansion story will continue in the new Haunted Mansion Parlor aboard the Disney Cruise Line. According to Disney, the new venue will be “imbued with Crump’s unique brand of humor and is a proud continuation of his legacy, celebrating the weird and the fantastic.”
A Tribute to Rolly Crump
To honor the man who helped bring The Haunted Mansion to life, a “Brother Roland” bust will be installed in the new parlor, featuring the likeness of Crump.
The design of the bust takes inspiration from Rolly’s Museum of the Weird, the spiritual processor of the Haunted Manion, which would have been a walkthrough attraction featuring different spooks, spectators, and curiosities. One concept for the Museum of the Weird called for a “candle man” who appeared to be melting.
A small version of the character was added to Magic Kingdom’s Haunted Mansion as a tribute to Curmp following his passing.
A Nod To a Classic Rolly Character
For the new Haunted Mansion Parlor bust, Crump’s face, too, appears to be melting, a subtle nod to one of his strangest characters.
A memorial plaque on the base of the bust reads: “BROTHER ROLAND — FOREVER REVERED FOR EMBRACING THE WEIRD.”
Fans will get a chance to see the bust in person when the Disney Treasure sets sail later this year. What a fitting tribute to a true Disney Legend.
