‘The Mandalorian & Grogu’ Has Been Awarded One of the Biggest Tax Credits in California History
After receiving one of the largest tax credit awards in state history, The Mandalorian & Grogu will officially be filmed in California.
The Jon Favreau-directed film has been awarded a $21,755,000 conditional tax credit for filming in the state.
In total, The Mandalorian & Grogu is expected to hire 500 crew members, 54 cast members, and 3500 background actors for 92 days of filming this year. Because of these large numbers, the film will generate a record-breaking $166,438,000 in qualified expenditures and below-the-line wages.
As California stares at a $73 billion deficit and a struggling entertainment industry, the state is likely thrilled with the amount of jobs the movie will create. In fact, the film should become the greatest job creator out of any movie and be awarded a California tax incentive.

With production on the film set to start in the next few months, it is unclear at this time how involved Mandalorian star Pedro Pascal will be.
While Pascal ostensively plays Din Djarin, because the Mandalorian’s face is often covered, other actors routinely replace Pascal. As the actor has Fantastic Four, Gladiator 2, and The Last of Us in development, he may be overbooked.
While we don’t know a ton about the plot for The Mandalorian & Grogu, we do know that it will be the first Star Wars film to hit theaters since 2019’s disappointing The Rise of Skywalker.
As Lucasfilm sets its sights back on the box office, it is turning to its two most marketable stars to help right the Star Wars ship. Hot on The Mandalorian’s heels will be three more Star Wars films, each of which will explore a different era of galactic history.
The Mandalorian & Grogu will hit theaters in 2026.
