Cameron Monaghan Would Love To Play Star Wars Jedi Cal Kestis in Live-Action
Cameron Monaghan has starred in movies and television, but his most iconic role has unquestionably been that of Cal Kestis in the Star Wars Jedi video game series.
Monaghan not only serves as the voice actor for Kestis, but he also portrays the character through motion-capture technology.
Between Monaghan’s independent acting career and the popularity of Kestis Star Wars Jedi games, fans have been clamoring for Monaghan to play the popular Jedi in live action.
Monaghan Talks Playing Kestis in Live-Action
For his part, Monaghan has made it clear that he would love to keep playing Kestis, no matter the medium.
At FanExpo Vancouver 2024, Monaghan told the audience that he would be happy to reprise his role as Kestis as long as it continued the Jedi’s story.
“It would have to be right,” Monaghan said.
“By that I mean, it has to continue the story or the character in some way. I don’t want him to just kind of show up to stand around and be there. I want him to mean something and for there to be a significance for the character itself. So, it would have to make sense. But in the right context then, yeah, absolutely.”
Ahsoka May Have Hinted At Kestis
While Kestis’s entry to live-action has been long rumored, a small detail in Ahsoka may have opened the door for the Jedi’s debut.
In the series, Ahsoka uses psychometry, the ability to relieve memories and events of an object by touching it through Force Echoes. Kestis, of course, famously uses the power in the Star Wars Jedi series.
Although we don’t know if or when Cal Kestis will make the jump to live-action, we do know that the character’s story is not over yet. A third Star Wars Jedi film is in development.
“We’re working on a third and we’re in the process of doing that right now,” Monaghan said at Ocala Comic Con. “That’s a big undertaking and there have been some conversations so far, but hopefully when all things are said and done, we’ll be able to go in and make something really cool.”
