An exposition occurring during Disney100 will soon premiere globally and Mexico City just got a sneak peek! Here’s a first look at the “Walt Disney and El Grupo: A Trip Through Latin America” exhibit.
“Walt Disney and El Grupo: A Trip Through Latin America”
In 1941, Walt Disney traveled to multiple countries in Latin America, in order to do some research. A team of artists accompanied him as he learned about the area.

Disney planned to incorporate their newfound cultural knowledge into future Disney films. Their trip through Argentina, Brazil, Uruguay, Bolivia, Perú, Chile, Ecuador, Guatemala, and Mexico, inspired Saludos Amigos and Los Tres Caballeros.
First Look
Today, Mexico City got a special preview of “Walt Disney and El Grupo: A Trip Through Latin America!”

The exhibit is the first of its kind, giving fans an up-close look at Walt’s 1941 trip. D23 shares that Soumaya Museum is currently showcasing “over 60 restored photographs, archival footage, film clips, posters from two feature films, and more than 30 pieces of artwork inspired by the journey.”
Director of Walt Disney Archives, Becky Cline shares, “We at the Walt Disney Archives are thrilled to share a series of photos that transcend the borders of language and culture. These fascinating photos tell the special story of a group of artists who fell in love with lands far from their own home and were inspired to create films that simply celebrate the global friendship they discovered there.”

The exposition is free and will continue through March 18. Senior Vice President and General Manager of The Walt Disney Company Mexico, Allan Navarrete shares, “We are very excited to be able to provide a very unique glimpse into a lesser-known episode on the impact that Walt Disney’s journey through Latin America had on his life and work, as well as on the culture and society of that time.”
