This ‘Rogue One’ Star Says He Will Not Reprise His Role in ‘Andor’
As the storyline of Andor continues to inch closer to the events of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, speculation has run rampant that we may see Rogue One characters pop up in season 2.
While we do not know the full cast for the upcoming season, we can cross one name off the list. Despite his prominent role in Rogue One, Ben Mendelsohn will not return as Director Orson Krennic.
Mendelsohn Has Not Talked to Lucasfilm About a Return
When asked about the possibility that he would reprise his role as the Imperial officer, Mendelsohn agreed that he would love to return but revealed that he has not had any contact with Lucasfilm.
“I think Krennic has a tremendous amount of things left to give to the audience. As for being contacted by Lucasfilm for a new project, I can tell you that no. That I have not been approached for something like this. And yes, it would be great to see him again somewhere. But for now everything stops here. But as far as I’m concerned, I would be very willing to explore it further and significantly in that world,” he said.
Krennic Seemed Like a Natural Fit
Mendelsohn’s absence from Andor season 2 is surprising, given that the series has been confirmed to lead directly into the events of Rogue One. Considering Krennic central role in the creation of the Death Star, it would have seemed like Andor was a natural fit for the character’s return.
Still, based on Mendelsohn’s willingness to reprise his role and Star Wars’ propensity to bring characters back, perhaps we have not seen the last of Director Orson Krennic.
For now, though, fans will have to wait and see.
