Disney’s Streaming Ratings for New Year’s Week 2024
The streaming ratings are in for the start of 2024, but these aren’t as great for Disney.
As usual, there’s one exception, though. Y’all watch a lot of Bluey.

Let’s discuss the streaming ratings from January 1st through 7th, 2024.
Let’s Talk about What’s Not Listed

This time, I’ll take an unusual approach by first discussing what’s not on the charts.
In an extraordinarily rare turn of events, Disney didn’t claim an entrant on the Streaming Movies list for the week.
I’m not saying that has never happened, but it’s quite a rarity.

Disney+ has developed a reputation as the best service to watch high-quality Disney stories.
As Justin Hermes recently discussed, Disney+ claimed the two most-watched streaming movies of 2023.
Yes, fans watched Disney+ catalog titles Moana and Encanto more than they viewed any new title like The Super Mario Bros. Movie.
That’s why it’s noteworthy to see Disney+ come up empty during the first week of January.
Similarly, What If…? didn’t appear, either. I mentioned last week that its unique release strategy could work against it.
Disney+ debuted a new episode daily from December 22nd through December 30th.

The show managed 513 million viewer minutes during Christmas Week, but its New Year’s Week performance must have fallen under 317 million.
That’s not surprising, given the release pattern. Also, Marvel’s absence might only last a week.
Echo released all five episodes on January 9th, two days after the current chart ended.

Given the positive reception for this series, I expect it to appear next week.
If not, Disney+ will probably never try either of these release strategies again.
Disney’s Nielsen Hits for the Week
Which Disney programs did earn a spot on the Nielsen charts for the week?
Obviously, Bluey is the big one. In fact, with 1.25 billion minutes watched, it was the number four program throughout streaming.
The only show that surpassed it on the Acquired Series chart was Young Sheldon, which only recently debuted on Netflix.

I’d argue that Bluey’s performance is more impressive since that’s just, like, a normal holiday week for the show.
Percy Jackson and the Olympians also performed well during New Year’s Week.

The series gained 627 million minutes watched, which is an increase from Christmas Week’s 572 million minutes.
The series recently completed its first season and was halfway through its run by early January.
So, we have four more episodes to go, hinting at least another month on the charts.

Finally, Hulu claimed two spots in the Nielsen streaming ratings for the week.
Law & Order: Special Victims Unit earned 478 million minutes on Hulu and Peacock.

Meanwhile, The Act, a documentary about something I’d rather not discuss, managed 317 million minutes.
The Act is a catalog title from 2019, but Gypsy Rose Blanchard, the person involved, was in the news at the beginning of 2024.
