When Jeremy Renner Woke Up From His Snowplow Accident Anthony Mackie Was the First Person He Saw
Avengers stick together.
Just over a year after his near-fatal snowplow accident, Jeremy Renner is beginning to reflect on the critical time in his life.
Discussing his initial hospital stay following the accident on This Life of Mine, Renner revealed that the first person he saw when he woke up was his Avengers and Hurt Locker costar Anthony Mackie.
“One of the first people at my hospital bed was Anthony Mackie. This accident. He was in Vegas,” Renner recalled. “He shot over, and he’s the first person I saw when I woke up.”
A Special Bond
Renner and Mackie first worked together in 2008’s The Hurt Locker, where they played a pair of soldiers in the Iraq War.
Later, they would both co-star in Captain America: Civil War, Avengers: Endgame, and Avengers: Infinity War.
Despite the fact that Renner and Mackie don’t have a lot of time to keep in touch, Renner says the bond between the two remains strong.
“And we don’t talk all the time,” he added. “We’re not, like, hanging out all the time, because the problem with having, you know, actor friends, everyone’s so busy and now we’re all parents and we never see each other. We rarely talk to each other, but the connectedness that we have is an always thing.”
A Lasting Friendship
Interstingly, both Mackie and Renner are still close with their fellow Hurt Locker co-star, Brian Geraghty.
It’s a friendship that Renner charishes.
“They’ve affected my life in unexpected ways,” Renner shared of his friendship with Mackie and Geraghty, 48. “We should have just been guys working together or whatever, and it’s become far beyond that.”
With Renner on the road to recovery and Mackie set to assume the mantle of Captain America, perhaps we will see the two actors share the screen again in the MCU soon.
