Jeremy Renner Says He Is a Changed Man Following His Snow Plow Accident
As Jeremy Renner prepares for his action-packed return for a Silk Super Bowl commercial, the Marvel star believes he is a changed man.
Just over a year since a snow plow accident left Renner critically injured, the Hawkeye lead says he has learned to embrace his softer side.
In January 2023, Renner was run over by a snow plow while saving his nephew from danger.
Breaking more than 30 bones in his body, the actor spent over two weeks in the hospital and had to undergo multiple surgeries.
Renner Says He Has “Been Blessed”
As his recovery continues, Renner says he recognizes that he has “been blessed.”
“I certainly got a lot of callousness squashed out of me by that machine,” he tells PEOPLE while discussing his new Super Bowl commercial for Silk. “I’ve never been bitter, but always maybe a little more callous, a little bit more tough. And I just think those calluses are just scraped off me at this point. Literally, I feel pretty open and wonderfully sensitive and youthful.”
Less than four months after his accident, Renner walked the red carpet alongside his 10-year-old daughter Ava.
Leaning on His Family
Now, as he begins to ramp up his work schedule, he recognizes the support his family and friends gave him. It was a moving experience.
While Renner would never want to go through the experience of the last year again, he says the accident and his subsequent recovery taught him about himself.
“I know how far I can go. That’s pretty useful information — give you parameters of your life, and it’s pretty hopeful,” he says. “I overcame a lot, and there’s so many things that could have gone wrong. It all went right, every part of it. From my vision, to walking, that no one said I was going to walk again. I’m like, ‘Well…’”
“A Beacon of Hope”
For his Super Bowl commercial, Renner will not only appear on millions of televisions for the first time since his injury, but he will get to do it with his daughter Eva.
“It’s a beacon of hope for me and for my daughter as well, and this is a new part of our journey together in recovery and in life,” he says. “Getting back into life in a different way, out of a hospital bed, out of the house, being social, just doing normal things. It represents a lot to me, and I’m very thankful to be here to do this.”
Hopefully, Renner’s path toward recovery continues, and the actor will feel 100% again.
