Lashana Lynch Was As Surprised By Her Marvel Return as Fans Were
Every time Lashana Lynch believes that her Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) journey is over, she gets pulled back in.
Lynch originated the role of Maria Rambeau in 2019’s Captain Marvel before returning for the Disney+ series WandaVision.
In her return, it was revealed that during the five-year gap between the Thanos snap in Avengers: Infinity War and Bruce Banner’s undoing of the snap’s effects in Avengers: Endgame, Maria succumbed to cancer.
Since her character’s on-screen death, however, Lynch returned as a variant of Maria Rambeau for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Then came The Marvels.
The mid-credit scene for Marvel’s latest theatrical release saw Maria’s daughter, Monica Rambeau, awakening inside a lab at the Xavier Institute. There, she is confronted by Beast (Kelsey Grammer) and Lynch’s Binary, who is apparently another variant of Maria Rambeau.
Lynch Didn’t Know She Would Be Returning
According to Lynch, her character’s constant returns are as much a surprise to the actress as they are to fans.
“I don’t know anything, literally,” Lynch continued. “Every single increment of the character has been play-by-play, so I knew about Captain Marvel, then I knew about Doctor Strange, and then I knew about The Marvels. I didn’t even get the script for that, I just had those moments. I know what you know, and that’s it.”
Because of the secrecy surrounding Marvel, Lynch didn’t know that she would be returning for The Marvels. Even as she played other variants of Maria.
“I did know going into the movie. I didn’t know what would happen next,” said Lynch.
Here Come the X-Men
Between the mid-credit scene in The Marvels and the releases of Deadpool 3 and X-Men 97‘ on the horizon, the X-Men are set to play a big part in Marvel’s future.
“It’s super exciting,” Kevin Feige said. “The X-Men are as solid and rich and great a concept in characters that exist. [We’re doing] the return of the animated series next year, which we’re very excited about. I saw some new, final episodes today, which really bring you back to that core of who the X-Men are and that soap opera that those characters represent. In live-action, people will see.”
Perhaps then, we will once again see Lashana Lynch return to the MCU soon.
