The Santa Clauses Hits the Charts
The holiday season started even earlier than you know!
In November, Disney+ viewers were already watching a metric ton of Christmas content.
So, let’s talk about Home Alone, The Santa Clauses, and all the other hits on Disney+.
The Santa Clauses Debuts
We’re about to talk about the latest Nielsen Streaming charts, which you can find here.
As your weekly reminder, Nielsen delays its charts by a few weeks, albeit by less than it did just a few months ago.
So, the chart we’re evaluating covers the time around Thanksgiving. Specifically, it’s November 20th through November 26th, 2023.
For the week in question, Disney+ had five programs that charted, while Hulu claimed two…and an amusing pair at that.
But first, let’s talk about the pleasant surprise of the week. Yes, I mean The Santa Clauses.
Technically, the streaming spinoff of the popular film franchise debuted on November 8th. However, it didn’t make the charts last time.
During Thanksgiving, fans were ready to do some bingeing, which benefited the show greatly.
The Santa Clauses gained 408 million viewer minutes, which is all the more impressive when you realize only three episodes of season two were available at that point.
During its first season, The Santa Clauses also consistently earned a spot on the Nielsen ratings. So, this isn’t a huge shock, but it’s welcome news for Disney+.
Other Disney TV Shows That Charted
I say this because Loki is finally about to fade away from the charts after a stunningly successful second season.
For the week in question, Loki finished ninth on the Originals chart with 262 million viewer minutes. This is likely the last we see of it.
Don’t worry, though. Disney+ will likely always have a presence on the charts because of one program.
Of course, I’m talking about Bluey, which soared to 1.167 billion viewer minutes during Thanksgiving. That’s a LOT of parents who shoved their kids in front of the television.
Disney on the Movies Chart
The most entertaining conversation involves the Movies chart. For the week in question, Disney claimed four out of the top ten spots…kind of.
We’ve discussed two before. Those are Home Alone and Elemental, the latter of which has a near-constant presence on the charts.
During Thanksgiving Week, Home Alone proved the people’s choice, as it garnered 631 million viewer minutes. That is a LOT of paint cans to the face!
Meanwhile, Elemental is at risk of falling off the charts for a time. It has dropped to 371 million viewer minutes.
However, even if the Pixar gem disappears for a while, I’m confident we’ll see it again. For the time being, it’s the people’s choice as the go-to animated film on Disney+.
Of course, Disney owns another streaming service, which is Hulu. For the week in question, Hulu had two entries in the top ten.
As you might expect, both were holiday-related. The more popular of the two is Elf, which you can watch on the Hulu tile on Disney+ right now.
LOTS of people did, as the film finished second on the Movies chart with 664 million viewer minutes, even more than what Home Alone claimed.
Finally, the surprise entry is National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation, which snuck into the top ten with 341 million viewer minutes.
And now that I’ve typed that, I have to listen to the Mavis Staples song, which brings me joy every time. Here, enjoy!

You would be surprised how many of those parents are sitting right there with their kids watching Bluey. It really is a great show.
