Why Is “Bob Eiger” Trending?
Sometimes, it feels like the world no longer makes sense, and here’s the latest example.
On December 7th, “Bob Eiger” started trending on X, formerly known as Twitter. And the reason why is soooo stupid.
Why Did Disney Pause Advertising on X/Twitter?

During the past few weeks, MickeyBlog has reported on a fascinating story.
In November, Disney joined several other Fortune 100 companies in pausing advertising on X, formerly known as Twitter.
Soon afterward, MickeyBlog noticed that several popular Disney media pages like @MarvelStudios, @StarWars, and @Disney had stopped posting on X/Twitter.

Bob Iger, the CEO of The Walt Disney Company, fielded a question regarding the matter a few days later.
The veteran corporate leader’s comments were as diplomatic and tactful as we’ve come to expect from him:
“I have a lot of respect for Elon and what he has accomplished.

“We know that Elon is larger than life in many respects and that his name is very much connected to the companies he founded or owns.
By him taking the position he took in a public manner, we felt that the association was not necessarily a positive one for us.”

That’s an extraordinarily polite way to say that X/Twitter has grown too toxic to justify an advertising spend.
Also, while Iger shouldered the responsibility for this decision, the reality is that Disney’s media agency likely recommended that corporations follow IBM’s lead in pausing their ad campaigns.

Here’s where the conversation turns objectively ridiculous. Remember how I just said that IBM was the leader in pausing advertising on X/Twitter?
For whatever reason, X’s current owner, Elon Musk, hasn’t thrown a tantrum at IBM. Instead, the mercurial billionaire has directed his rage toward Disney and specifically “Bob Eiger.”

Musk spent part of Thursday, December 7th, ranting about “Bob Eiger,” whom the X/Twitter owner believes Disney should fire immediately.
Musk noticed a derogatory story that CNBC ran about his social media competitors, Facebook and Instagram, whose owner, Mark Zuckerberg, he has tried to fight.

Don’t worry. Musk’s mother wouldn’t let her 52-year-old baby boy go through with the fight, which really takes me back to sixth grade.

Anyway, Musk questioned why “Bob Eiger” still advertised on Facebook/Instagram, using a newly filed lawsuit involving explosive allegations as a justification.
While the simple logical response is, “This unproven lawsuit is slightly different from the many problems with X/Twitter that its owner has admitted,” it’s not the point here.
Musk continued to vent about “Bob Eiger,” which caused fans and critics of Disney to take sides in the latest online flamewar.
Our friends at The Wrap cataloged some of the responses if you’re interested. But that’s beside the point.
The reason why “Bob Eiger” is trending on social media is because the owner of X/Twitter cannot spell Iger correctly.
That thought alone makes me want to say:
