Bob Iger Discusses Disney’s Advertising and Content Pause From X/Twitter
After pausing all advertising on X (former Twitter) last week, several Disney accounts (along with other media companies) seemed to take a pause from posting altogether on the social media platform.
The advertising and content pause was in response to comments made by X owner Elon Musk, and during The New York Times Dealbook Summit on November 29th, Disney CEO Bob Iger discussed what happened.
Break From X
As reported by The Hollywood Reporter, Iger had this to say about Elon Musk:
“I have a lot of respect for Elon and what he has accomplished. We know that Elon is larger than life in many respects, and that his name is very much connected to the companies he founded or owns. By him taking the position he took in a public manner, we felt that the association was not necessarily a positive one for us.”
In other words, associating with Elon Musk’s social media platform after he endorsed an antisemitic conspiracy theory was not a good look for Disney, nor a number of other companies who paused advertising and others who also paused content.
Iger did note, however, that he believes it is “perfectly reasonable” for CEOs to share opinions on geopolitical events, and in some cases, it is expected if not required.
While some Disney-related X accounts have resumed posting, not all of them are back to normal posting yet. We’ll be keeping our eyes on this developing story.
