WATCH: Disney Releases New ‘Percy Jackson and the Olympians’ Trailer
Percy Jackson fans will soon get a chance to return to Camp Half-Blood when Percy Jackson and the Olympians premieres December 20 on Disney+.
The new series will be based on the popular young-adult fantasy book series, and stars Walker Scobell as the titular 12-year-old boy who learns that he has divine powers.

“‘Percy Jackson and the Olympians’ tells the fantastical story of a 12-year-old modern demigod, Percy Jackson (Scobell), who’s just coming to terms with his newfound divine powers when the sky god Zeus accuses him of stealing his master lightning bolt. With help from his friends Grover (Simhadri) and Annabeth (Jeffries), Percy must embark on an adventure of a lifetime to find it and restore order to Olympus.”

Ahead of the series’s release, Disney has released a new trailer for the show, which sees Percy, Annabeth (Leah Sava Jeffries), and Grover (Aryan Simhadri) on their adventure to restore order at Mount Olympus and save the world.

Percy Jackson and Olympians was created by Percy Jackson author Rick Riordan with Jon Steinberg.
The series will be the second adaptation of the Percy Jackson franchise. Percy Jackson was previously adapted into two films, 2010’s Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief and 2013’s Percy Jackson: Seas of Monsters.

The series will be especially important for Disney, who has struggled to find hit streaming series outside of Marvel and Star Wars. If Disney can turn Percy Jackson into a tentpole franchise it would be a huge boost for their flagship streaming service.
Percy Jackson and the Olympians will stream December 20 on Disney+.
