PHOTOS: Exclusive Earth Day Wilderness Explorer Badge Comes to Disney’s Animal Kingdom
On this day 26 years ago, Disney World officially opened Disney’s Animal Kingdom, inviting guests to explore “a kingdom of animals… real, ancient, and imagined: a kingdom ruled by lions, dinosaurs, and dragons; a kingdom of balance, harmony, and survival; a kingdom we enter to share in the wonder, gaze at the beauty, thrill at the drama, and learn.”
Since that time, a lot has changed at Disney World’s fourth gate. Still, the dedication of the park to education, conservation, and exploration has remained.

Tree of Life
Perhaps the experience that best exudes the spirit of Disney’s Animal Kingdom is the Wilderness Explorers station-to-station scavenger hunt that takes young guests on a journey through the park.
Following in the footsteps of Russell from Up, young Wilderness Explorers can earn badges by completing activities where they learn about conservation, the animals within Disney’s Animal Kingdom, and more. In total, there are over 25 different badges they can earn to fill up their Field Journal.
A Special Prize For Earth Day
In celebration of Earth Day today, young Wilderness Explorers can acquire a special badge at Rafiki’s Planet Watch.
To earn the badge, young Explorers will learn about National Parks and how they conserve natural habitats. When we stopped by, we were asked what our favorite National Park was.
Here is a closer look at the badge!
So, if you plan on visiting Disney’s Animal Kingdom today, stop by Rafiki’s Planet Watch and secure your badge! Being a Wilderness Explorer can require some hard work, but it is a ton of fun!
Finally, happy Earth Day!
