This Day in Disney History- October 20
Welcome back to our magical foray through The Walt Disney Company’s past. Today we are looking at the events on this day in Disney history- October 20.
October 20th was a busy day in Disney history, with the dedication of an EPCOT Center pavilion, the release of a classic Disney sequel, and the release of the first Mickey Mouse cartoon in 30 years! So, let’s get started!
The Fox Hunt Released (1931)
On this day in 1931, The Fox Hunt was released.
The Silly Symphony showed a fox hunt that ends when hunters encounter a skunk.
The Japan Pavilion Dedicated (1982)
On this day in 1982, the Japan pavilion was officially dedicated at EPCOT Center.
The 10 a.m. ceremony was followed by a buffet lunch reception at the Mitsukoshi Restaurant.
Mickey’s Christmas Carol Released (1983)
On this day in 1983, Mickey’s Christmas Carol was released in the United Kingdom.
The carton was a twenty-four-minute adaptation of the Charles Dickens classic A Christmas Carol and was the first Mickey Mouse short released since 1953!
Bear in the Big Blue House Premieres (1997)
On this day in 1997, Bear in the Big Blue House premiered on the Disney Channel.
The series was produced by the Jim Henson Company and centered on Bear, a curios brown bear who lives in the Big Blue House with his friends Ojo, Tutter, Treelo, Pip, and Pop.
The Lion King II: Simba’s Pride Premieres (1998)
On this day in 1998, The Lion King II: Simba’s Pride had its world premiere.
The sequel to The Lion King would eventually be released direct-to-video.
Return to Halloweentown Premieres (2006)
On this day in 2006, Return to Halloweentown premiered.
The fourth and final installment in the Halloweentown series, the film starred Sara Paxton and Joey Zimmerman as siblings who attend Witch University.
Blue Sky Cellar Opens (2008)
On this day in 2008, the Blue Sky Cellar opened at Disney’s California Adventure.
The new preview center gave guests a preview of the upcoming Cars Land and Little Mermaid dark ride.
The Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes! Premieres (2010)
On this day in 2010, The Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes! premeired on Disney XD.
The new animated series saw the formation of the Avengers.
Coco Premiers (2017)
On this day in 2017, Coco premiered at the Morelia International Film Festival in Morelia, Mexico.
Coco follows the story of a 12-year-old boy named Miguel who sets off a chain of events that leads to an extraordinary family reunion.
