Welcome back to our continuing journey through the history of The Walt Disney Company. Today we are looking at the events on this day in Disney history- October 10.
October 10 was a slower day in Disney history, but it still featured the release of classic cartoons, the premiere of a classic Disney TV series, and the closure of a classic EPCOT Center attraction. So, let’s get started!
The Gorilla Mystery Released (1930)
On this day in 1930, The Gorilla Mystery was released.
In the cartoon, Mickey must rescue Minnie from Beppo the Gorilla.
The Barnyard Broadcast Released (1931)
On this day in 1931, the Mickey Mouse short The Barnyard Broadcast was released.
In the cartoon, Mickey and his friends put on a wild musical show.
Mickey’s Elephant Released (1936)
On this day in 1936, Mickey’s Elephant was released.
In the cartoon, Mickey brings home Bobo the elephant.
Officer Duck Released (1939)
On this day in 1939, Officer Duck was released.
In the cartoon, Donald plays a police officer who must serve Pete with an eviction notice.
Trick or Treat Released (1952)
On this day in 1952, Trick or Treat was released.
In the cartoon Huey, Dewey, and Louie team up with Hazel the Witch to teach Donald a lesson after he plays a prank on his nephews.
Zorro Debuts (1957)
On this day in 1957, Zorro debuted on ABC.
The new series starred Guy Williams as Zorro and Don Diego.
RocketMan Released (1997)
On this day in 1997, RocketMan was released.
The film starred Harland Willaims as Fred Z. Randall- a nerdy spacecraft designer who gets the chance to travel to Mars.
Journey Into Imagination Closes (1998)
On this day in 1998, Journey into Imagination closed.
The attraction, along with the Image Works, would undergo significant renovations before reopening as Journey Into Your Imagination.
Disney and Frito-Lay Reach Deal (2002)
On this day in 2002, The Walt Disney Company and Frito-Lay agreed to a new partnership.
The deal would lead to Frito-Lay products being sold in Disney’s domestic parks.
Disney Announces Art of Animation Opening Day (2012)
On this day in 2011, Disney announced that the Art of Animation Resort would open on May 31, 2012.
The new resort would eventually offer 1,120 family suites and 864 guest rooms.
Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day Released (2014)
On this day in 2014, Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day was released.
The film tells the story of 11-year-old Alexander, whose day starts out with gum stuck in his hair and only gets worse from there.
StarJets Closes in Tokyo
Finally, on this day in 2017, StarJets closed at Tokyo Disneyland.
The rocket-spinner attraction had originally opened with the park on April 15, 1983.
