This Day in Disney History- October 30
Welcome back to our continuing journey through the history of The Walt Disney Company. Today, we are looking at the events on this day in Disney history- October 30.
October 30 was an important day in Disney’s history, with the opening of a new attraction at EPCOT Center, the release of an overlooked Disney film, and the beginning of Disney’s purchase of Lucasfilm.
Hell’s Bells Released (1929)
On this day in 1929, Hell’s Bells was released.
The 4th Silly Symphony cartoon tells the story of the devils of hell who gather together for a mad frolic.
Winter Released (1930)
On this day in 1930, Winter was released.
The fourth of Disney’s “Four Seasons” Silly Symphonies, the short featured animals frolicking in the newly fallen snow.
The Incredible Journey Released (1963)
On this day in 1963, The Incredible Journey was released.
The live-action film tells the story of a cat named Tao and two dogs named Bodger and Luath who lose their owners when they are on vacation. The film would eventually be remade as Homeward Bound: The Incredible Journey.
The Making of Me Opens (1989)
On this day in 1989, The Making of Me opened in EPCOT Center’s Wonders of Life pavilion.
The film starred Martin Short and explained how babies were born.
John Henry Released (2000)
On this day in 2000, John Henry was released.
The animated short was a retelling of the legend of John Henry, a steel-driving man.
Chicken Little Premieres (2005)
On this day in 2005, Chicken Little premiered at the El Capitan Theater.
The computer-animated film was a loose retelling of the fable The Sky is Falling and starred Zach Braff in the titular role.
Disney Lays Out Plans to Buy Lucasfilm (2012)
On this day in 2012, The Walt Disney Company announced its plans to purchase Lucasfilm from director George Lucas.
The purchase gave Disney ownership of the Star Wars and Indiana Jones franchises. At this time, Disney announced their plans to create Star Wars: Episode 7.
