Lucasfilms and Marvel Team Up For “Obi-Wan” Kenobi
Lucasfilm and Marvel are teaming up to bring the Disney+ series “Obi-Wan Kenobi” to comics.
The 2022 limited series saw the return of the legendary Jedi Master emerging from his isolation to rescue a young Princess Leia.
The show, set between the events of “Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith” and “Star Wars: A New Hope”, saw Ewan McGregor reprise his iconic role, and wield his lightsaber once again to do battle with Darth Vader.
Now, fans of the series can relieve the adventure in a new way beginning in September. The new 6-issue miniseries was written by Jody Houser with pencils from Salvador Larocca. Each installment of the new comic series will correspond to an individual episode of the TV series.
The Creators Respond
Both Houser and Larocca shared their excitement about working on the project.
“Adaptations are how I got my start in Star Wars comics, and I’m always excited to try my hand at another,” Houser tells StarWars.com. “Obi-Wan Kenobi introduced some fantastic new characters, as well as giving us new insight into old favorites, and I hope fans enjoy seeing a familiar story play out in a whole new medium.”
“I’m very pleased to be back in the Star Wars galaxy,” adds Larocca “After Darth Vader and the main Star Wars titles, now it’s time for me to take on Obi-Wan! I hope all of you enjoy the series as much as I do!”
Obi-Wan Kenobi will continue a partnership between Marvel and Lucasfilm that has spanned decades. Marvel originally adapted Star Wars in 1977 and currently is adapting The Mandalorian Season 2.
