NEW Display Recreates Surface of Mars at Mission: SPACE in EPCOT
How cool is this!? Disney just announced that they partnered with NASA to update an in-park display that recreates the surface of Mars just in front of Mission: SPACE at EPCOT!
According to a recent post on X, Disney announced that NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory provided images captured by the NASA Perseverance Rover as a reference. A 3D print file was used to recreate sample tubes used on Mars. NASA also created a prototype of the wheel used on the Perseverance Rover to create the tread marks you see above. These are identical to the ones currently found on Mars!
The Perseverance Rover landed on Mars in February 2021 and is the first of an international team of robots with the job of collecting samples of Mars rocks to be returned to Earth. The end goal is to ultimately be able to answer the question: Was there ever life on Mars?

Mission: SPACE at EPCOT
For those unfamiliar, Mission: SPACE takes guests on an incredible adventure to discover what it’s like to be an astronaut. To kick things off you’ll train for your mission on the X-2 Deep Space Shutte at the International Space Training Center (ISTC.) Each member of your crew will take on an important role (Navigator, Pilot, Commander, or Engineer.) During your flight, it will be up to you to initiate a mission-critical sequence so be prepared.
Get ready to dodge meteorites and slingshot around the moon on a flight path that promises breathtaking views of your home planet.
A Note For Those With Motion Sickness
Mission: Space has the reputation of being one of the most motion-sickness-inducing rides at Disney World. However, there is a solution for those prone to motion sickness. There are two versions of Mission: SPACE: Orange Mission and Green Mission. Here’s a quick breakdown of both.
- Orange Mission – I’ve got two words for you, centrifugal force! You’ll hurtle through space using a centrifuge system that spins and tilts to simulate the speech and G-forces of a spacecraft launch and reentry. This is not for the faint of heart! Guests must be 44″ or taller to ride.
- Green Mission – Take flight on this family-friendly adventure that offers a gentler experience and is suitable for guests 40″ or taller. This version uses a motion simulator offering light movement and it does not spi9n.
