There’s Something A-Missing at Mission: SPACE in EPCOT!
Looks like Mission: SPACE is, well, MISSING: Space at the moment over in EPCOT, with a whole planet currently being mysteriously absent at the classic attraction.
Blast off to World Discovery with us, and let’s go investigate!
No, your eyes aren’t deceiving you. Yes, the giant Earth globe, which usually resides within the “swoosh” of the Mission: SPACE rocket statue, is missing!
Here’s what it would usually look like:
And here’s what that same statue looks like at the moment:
Now, if you’re feeling a little nervous right now, don’t worry – every astronaut has felt that way at one time or another.
Basically, Mission: SPACE is one of the (many) EPCOT attractions and areas currently seeing a boost of refurbishment and renovations, and this disappearance of the Earth is clearly another step towards the park’s ongoing transformation.
Disappearance of the Earth. Boy, is that fun to say.
Back in June, we showed you photos of how the speckled pavement surrounding the attraction had been torn right up by workforces, ready for new levelling and repaving to progress.
You know, cause if you’re gonna travel to space, you want it to be smooth!
Now, as well as the missing globe, our reporters are also noticing that further pavement replacement is underway.
As you can see from these photos, the ground is looking especially patchy as the changes are made, for instance with solvent spread out and scoring across the ground.
It’s worth mentioning that the Mission: SPACE ride itself is not currently affected by these exterior updates, with budding astronauts and explorers still perfectly able to blast off on their missions while visiting EPCOT.
Whether or not Earth will be waiting for them to touch back down on their return, however, might be a different issue!
So, next time you find yourself exploring World Discovery, don’t be alarmed to “discover” the beautiful Earth globe missing from its stand, and patchy groundwork beneath your feet.
We’re sure the planet will go back to normal soon enough, and look forward to the results of the ongoing EPCOT transformation we’ve been so closely following over the past few years!
