Major Overhaul Happening to Grand Floridian Lobby
If you’ve been following along with MickeyBlog, you’ll know that the crown jewel of Disney World’s Deluxe Resorts, the Grand Floridian, is currently under refurbishment. The majority of the construction is taking place in the atrium and lobby area in the main building of the resort.
The last time we popped by the property, the construction in the lobby looked quite contained. It looked to us as if Disney was doing a bit at a time to leave as much of the lobby open as possible.
However, as you can see from these images, that has clearly changed.
As you can see from these images, 3/4 of the lobby is currently behind construction walls!
Though the ground and second floor remain open, scrims cover the rest of the atrium.
You can see that boards have been laid down across the lobby floor and the golden birdcage is currently covered.
The image above provides a bit of insight into how scaled down the lobby currently is at the Floridian.
We know that improvements are coming to the lobby area and surrounding buildings. However, Disney has remained a bit tight-lipped about what’s being done.
Out of the three deluxe monorail properties, the Grand Floridian is the last one to get a major overhaul. Both Contemporary and Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort have had massive work done to lobby areas and guest rooms.
