Disney’s Haunted Mansion Materialize A $9.9 Million Opening Day
Disney’s newest release Haunted Mansion failed to scare audiences away form dual blockbusters Barbie and Oppenheimer, and managed just $9.9 million on its opening day.
Based on the popular Disney Parks attraction, Haunted Mansion is projected to gross between $25 and $30 million this weekend, although some observes think the film could fall short of that range

Holding Haunted Mansion back will be the vice-grip that Barbie has on family audiences. The Greta Gerwig smash hit is expected to bring in $29 million during its second week of release.
For the Justin Simien helmed Haunted Mansion, a $25 million opening weekend would be a fine number.

Another Auspicious Opening For Disney
Unfortunately, the film carries a $150 million production budget, meaning Haunted Mansion will have its work cut out for it in order to break even.
While the summer started out well for Disney, with Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3., the studio has been in troubled waters since.

The Little Mermaid floundered at the international box office, while Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny was largely ignored.
Even Elemental, which has had a successful box office run followings its disappointing debut, will likely lose Disney money.

Learning From ‘Elemental’
Elemental could provide a ray of hope for Disney. Like the Pixar release, Haunted Mansion has fared better with audiences than critics. The film currently holds an approval rating of 42% while audiences have rated the film “B+” on CinemaScore.

The hope for Disney, will be that as Barbie and Oppenheimer ride into the sunset, Haunted Mansion can settle in and find its audience.
In addition to its attraction-influence, the film features a star-studded cast which includes LaKeith Stanfield, Tiffany Haddish, Owen Wilson, Danny DeVito, Rosario Dawson, Dan Levy, Jamie Lee Curtis and Jared Leto.
