July 19th was a busy day in Disney history, with the release of a popular live-action film, a big day for Disney Legends, and also the opening of a Disney remake in theaters. So, let’s get started!
Put Put Troubles Released (1940)
On this day in 1940, the Donald Duck cartoon Put Put Troubles was released.
In the cartoon, Donald and Pluto go boating, but things don’t go as planned.
The Purloined Pup Released (1946)
On this day in 1946, the Pluto cartoon The Purloined Pop was released.
In the cartoon, police dog Pluto must save a Saint Bernard puppy from a bulldog named Butch.
Treasure Island Released (1950)
On this day in 1950, Disney’s Treasure Island was released.
Based on the book by Robert Louis Stevenson, the film told the story of a young boy named Jim who gets caught up with Long John Silver in the search for buried treasure.
Story of Anyburg U.S.A. Released (1957)
On this day in 1957, the Disney animated short The Story of Anyburg U.S.A. was released.
Described as a “humorous message on auto sanity”, the cartoon told the story of Anyburg, which decides to put the automobile on trial.
Walt’s Nine Old Men and Ub Iwerks Become Disney Legends (1989)
On this day in 1989, Walt’s Nine Old Men and Ub Iwerks were inducted as Disney Legends.
In a ceremony presided over by Micahel Eisner and Roy E. Disney, Les Clark, Marc Davis, Ollie Johnston, Milt Kahl, Ward Kimball, Eric Larson, John Lounsbery, Wolfgang Reitherman, Frank Thomas and Ub Iwerks all became Disney Legends.
Disney Signs Letter of Intent With Shanghai
On this day in 2002, The Walt Disney Company signed a letter of intent with the city of Shanghai to build a theme park there.
Shanghai Disneyland would eventually open in 2016.
Drew Rosenhaus Saves A Child’s Life (2005)
On this day in 2005, sports agent Drew Rosenhaus performed life-saving CPR on a 3-year-old at Walt Disney World.
The young child from Chicaog was revived by Rosenhaus at the Grand Floridian Resort.
Lightning McQueen Joins Lights, Motors, Action! (2011)
On this day in 2011, Ligning McQueen joined Lights, Motors, Action! Extreme Stunt Show for the first time.
McQueen replaced Herbie The Love Bug who previously performed in the show.
Teen Beach Movie Premiers (2013)
On this day in 2013, Teen Beach Movie premiered on the Disney Channel.
In the film, a couple of surfers are mysteriously transported into a beach party movie.
Liv and Maddie Premieres (2013)
On this day in 2013, Liv and Maddie premiered on the Disney Channel.
In the film identical twins Live and Maddie Rooney who are reunited after living completely different lives for years.
The Lion King Released (2019)
Finally, on this day in 2019, The Lion King was relaesed to theaters.
A photorealistic computer-animated remake of the 1994 animated film, The Lion King starred Beyonce, Donald Glover, Seth Rogen and James Earl Jones.
