This Day in Disney History- April 13
Welcome back to our trip through The Walt Disney Company’s past. Today we are looking at the events on this day in Disney history- April 13.
April 13th featured the release of the final black and white Disney cartoon, a preview of a new land at Disney’s Animal Kingdom, and the launch of a Pixar celebration at Disneyland. So, let’s get started!
Mickey’s Kangaroo Released (1925)
On this day in 1925, the Mickey Mouse cartoon Mickey’s Kangaroo was released.
In the cartoon a friend sends Mickey a kangaroo named Hoppy, who drives Pluto crazy.
Mickey’s Kangaroo was the last Disney cartoon to be produced in black and white.
Hounded Released (2001)
On this day in 2001, the Disney Channel Original Movie Hounded was released.
The film starred Tahj Mowry, Craig Kirkwood, and Shia LaBeaouf. Hounded told the story of a teenager who is hunted by a tiny dog that turns into a nightmare of a beast.
Chester & Hester’s Dino-Rama Preview Held
On this day in 2002, fans got to preview Chester & Hester’s Dino-Rama.
At the after hour event, guests could ride Primeval Whirl, TriceraTop Spin, and see a special performance of Tarzan Rocks.
Disney Nature Chimpanzee Premieres
On this day in 2012, the Disney Nature film Chimpanzee had its world premiere at Downtown Disney in Orlando.
On hand for the event were chimpanzee expert Jane Goodall and the crew behind the new documentary.
The Boathouse Opens (2015)
On this day in 2015 The Boathouse opened at Disney Springs.
The waterfront restaurant is perhaps best known for their vintage Amphicars.
Disney Announces Club 33s At Walt Disney World (2017)
On this day in 2017, Disney announced that versions of Club 33 would be installed in all four of Walt Disney World parks.
Club 33 is a private club located in Disneyland’s New Orleans Square.
Pixar Fest Kicks Off (2018)
On this day in 2018, Disneyland celebrated the first ever Pixar Fest.
For the event, both Disneyland and Disney California Adventure were filled with characters and experiences from “Toy Story”, “Monsters, Inc.”, “Finding Nemo” and “UP”.
As part of the festivities the Pixar Play parade also returned and the Walt Disney Imagineering Blue Sky Cellar reopened to give guests a preview of the upcoming Pixar Pier.
Paint the Night Debuts at Disney California Adventure (2018)
Finally, also on this day in 2018, Paint the Night debuted at Disney California Adventure.
The parade featured classic Disney and Pixar characters and was the spiritual successor to the Main Street Electrical Parade.
