Why You Might Not Be Able to Ride Spaceship Earth This Week in EPCOT
Spaceship Earth is a classic EPCOT landmark and icon — and it’s also a ride!
Since its opening in 1982, Spaceship Earth has been updated three different times — in 1986, 1994, and 2008.
In 2020 before the COVID-19 pandemic, Disney announced plans for Spaceship Earth to undergo a multi-year refurbishment, but those plans were halted when the parks closed in March 2020.
Spaceship Earth now continues to operate as its 2008 iteration, but you may not be able to ride it one day this week.
Spaceship Earth May Be Closing Soon
Although there is no official word from Disney, we noticed on Disney World’s website that there are no hours showing for Spaceship Earth on July 19th.
In contrast, there are hours listed for both July 18th…
…and the 20th.
July 20th is also a Disney After Hours event at EPCOT, which is a special ticketed event that allows guests EPCOT access from 10PM to 1AM.
So right now, it looks like Spaceship Earth will be closed on July 19th. It’s more than likely for a brief refurbishment, but we’ll be keeping our eyes peeled for any official announcements or any more dates.
Disney has not yet shared whether their multi-year refurbishment plans will ever come to fruition.
