Thank the Phoenicians! Major Refurbishment on Spaceship Earth Will be Delayed
Depending on how you felt about the major refurbishment that was planned for Spaceship Earth at EPCOT, we have some happy or not so happy news to pass along. But, per the following post on the WDW Magic boards, the refurbishment has been delayed and the iconic attraction will reopen when EPCOT does on July 15, 2020.
WDW Magic member t3techcom18 states that the Local 362 Union, who is responsible for representing Walt Disney World Theme Park attractions, stated today during a live ZOOM call that the refurb has been pushed back and will reopen when EPCOT does.

It was announced back in late 2018, that Spaceship Earth would close for a major refurbishment that could last over to years. Earlier this year, it was confirmed that the attraction would close on May 26, 2020 for the refurb to begin. Due to the ongoing closures over COVID-19, all construction projects were halted at Walt Disney World and the refurb never began.
Last month, Disney announced a $900 million decrease in capital expenditures. This reduction would mostly show in postponed or cancelled refurbishment projects at Disney Parks. It is still yet to be seen if the Spaceship Earth refurbishment will be delayed indefinitely or scrapped completely.

Even though the Spaceship Earth project has been delayed, we have been reporting that other projects are still moving forward, even during the economic downturn. This includes the Star Wars: Starcruiser Hotel as well as the all new PLAY! Pavilion scheduled for EPCOT.
