NEW: Disney 100 Years of Wonder Exhibit Comes To Disneyland
We’ve got a special treat for Disneyland fans! Disney has just announced that a new exhibit celebrating 100 Years of Wonder is now on display at Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln.
The Disney 100 Years of Wonder exhibit was curated by Kim Irvine. Disney historians will know that Kim’s father was the legendary Harvey Toombs who worked as an animator at Walt Disney Studios including on classics like Dumbo. Imagineer Kim is an legend in her own right and has compiled the biggest exhibit ever created for the gallery which is located in the heart of Disneyland Resort on Main Street USA.
“My dad was one of the original animators at the studio, and he often worked at home, so I had a lot of his animation pieces from ‘Dumbo,’ including the sequence when Dumbo is first born and you see his gigantic ears unfolding,” said Kim. More than 100 art pieces make up the exhibit. The story unfolds through storyboards in a recreated animators rooms. This includes an original animator’s desk which is on loan from the Walt Disney Archives.
“The details go right down to the pencil sharpener, which I remember hearing the sound of coming from my dad’s office as I fell asleep at night; he’d be sharpening his Blackwing pencil every two minutes,” said Kim. “I learned to draw sitting on my dad’s lap and tracing over his drawings.”

Other highlights in the exhibit include a brand new piano rendition of “When you Wish Upon a Star” which serves as the perfect soundtrack. There’s also mementoes exploring who Disney’s classic attractions from Haunted Mansion to Pirates of the Caribbean have gone on to inspire some of Disney’s most beloved films.
Another highlight of Disney 100 Years of Wonder is footage from “The Wonderful World of Disney” episode which aired just before the opening of Disneyland back in 1955. You’ll also want to be on the lookout for an original multiplane camera which revolutionized animation by adding new depth as well as sculptures that would help Imagineers conceptualize 3D models of Disney theme park attractions.
“For about three years I’ve been looking for the Old Hag from ‘Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs,’ who hasn’t been seen in Disneyland since the late 90s,” said Imagineer Dave Caranci, manager of Creative Development. The Audio-Animatronics caged which was a fan favorite at Disneyland where it cropped up in Main Street shops in the 80s and 90s. As you can see from the image above, it is now on display. “We thought she was lost. Then, a couple of months ago, Kim and I were walking through our warehouse and there she was,” Dave said gleefully. “We know our guests are going to be as excited to see her as we were.”
