July 8th was a busy day in Disney history, with the opening of a Tokyo Disneyland hotel, the groundbreaking for a new land in Disney California Adventure, and the loss of a Disney Legend. So, let’s get started!
Good Scouts Released (1938)
On this day in 1938, the Donald Duck cartoon Good Scouts was released.
In the short, Donald serves as scoutmaster for Huey, Dewey and Louie as they hike through the wilderness.
How to Have an Accident in the Home Released (1956)
On this day in 1956, the Donald Duck cartoon How to Have an Accident in the Home was released.
In the cartoon, viewers are introduced to J.J. Fate, the imaginary personification of Donald’s bad luck.
The Light in the Forrest Released (1957)
On this day in 1957, The Light in the Forest was Released.
The film told the story of a young boy who was taken from his parents and raised by Indians.
The Legend of the Lion King Has Its Grand Opening
On this day in 1994, the Legend of the Lion King had its grand opening at the Magic Kingdom.
Located in the Fantasyland theater, the new musical show told the story of Disney’s The Lion King.
Ward Kimball Passes Away (2002)
On this day in 2002, Disney Legend Ward Kimball passed away at 88.
Kimball, who was one of Walt’s “Nine Old Men” joined the Disney Studios in 1934.
The Walt Disney Company and Roy E. Disney Make Peace (2005)
On this day in 2005, The Walt Disney Company, Roy E. Disney and Stanley P. Gold released a joint statement announcing they had set aside their differences.
Roy E. Disney and Stanley Gold had previously left the company to launch the Save Disney campaign.
Tarzan on Broadway Released (2007)
On this day in 2007, the Disney Broadway musical Tarzan had its final performance.
Based on the animated film of the same name, the show ran for 486 performances before closing.
Tokyo Disneyland Hotel Opens (2008)
On this day in 2008, the Tokyo Disneyland Hotel had its grand opening.
The third Disney hotel within the Tokyo Disney Resort, the Tokyo Disneyland Hotel features Victorian-style architecture and stands in front of the park’s main entrance.
Cars Land Groundbreaking Ceremony Takes Place
On this day in 2009, a groundbreaking ceremony took place for Cars Land at Disney California Adventure.
On hand for the festivities was John Lasseter, who even drew a spray-paint Lightning McQueen on the pavement.
The Liberty Inn Closes (2019)
On this day in 2019, the Liberty Inn closed at Epcot.
Located in the American Adventure pavilion, the Liberty Inn had opened with the rest of EPCOT Center on October 1, 1982. The restaurant was replaced by the Regal Eagle Smokehouse.
Thor: Love and Thunder Released (2022)
Finally, on this day in 2022, Thor: Love and Thunder was released.
The fourth installment in the Thor franchise, Love and Thunder saw the God of Thunder team up with former love interest Jane Foster to battle Gorr the God Butcher.
