Ben Savage Has “Ghosted” His Former ‘Boy Meets World’ Co-Stars
For people my age, Boy Meets World was one of the seminal shows of our childhood. At the heart of the sitcom was the love story between Corey and Topanga.
Portrayed by Ben Savage and Danielle Fishel, respectively, the couple was the gold standard of 90s relationships, seemingly destined to be together from the time they were children.
Here in the real world, however, things are not quite as rosy. While most of the cast of Boy Meets World is still incredibly close, Danielle Fishel recently revealed that Ben Savage has essentially “ghosted” the rest of the actors.
The Cast Has Remained Close
If, unlike me, you have not kept up with the cast of Boy Meets World in the twenty years since the show went off the air, let me give you some backstory.
Danielle Fishel, Will Friedle (who played Eric Matthews), and Rider Strong (Shawn Hunter) continue to be friends in real life and currently host the popular Pod Meets World podcast together. William Daniels and his wife Bonnie (Mr. and Mrs. Feeny) are also still a part of the trio’s lives, with Bill Daniels being especially close to Friedle.
When the trio launched Pod Meets World, they were clear with their audience that Ben Savage did not want to be a part of the endeavor.
“He was very adamant that it was not for him,” Fishel stated. “He was also very clear, ‘I don’t want it to stop you. If you guys want to do it, go ahead.’ The time between those conversations and the time we actually started the podcast was a significant amount of time.”
What Happened To Ben Savage?
Despite this, Savage had remained close to the cast, appearing at fan conventions with Friedle, Strong, and Fishel over the years.
Savage had even come to be with Fishel when her first son was in the NICU.
Suddenly, however, he was gone.
“He just kind of disappeared from our lives,” Fishel said. “He ghosted us.”
Friedle agreed. “He disappeared. I wish I knew why, to this day.” There was no “fight” or “falling out” or “animosity.” Friedle described it as, “He just woke up one day, and decided I don’t want this person in my life anymore.”
In pure Will Friedle fashion, the actor texted Savage with a friendly threat.
“I said, ‘I’m gonna call you every day until you tell me not to call you anymore.’ That lasted about three weeks or a month, every single day.”
Savage, however, never picked up the phone.
“I tried and tried and tried for months until finally, my wife was like, ‘Why are you doing this to yourself? He obviously doesn’t want you in his life.’”
Fishel Has Hope
While Savage may not be a part of his former cast members’ lives now, Fishel has hope for the future of their friendship.
“If there’s anything this podcast has taught me, it’s that everyone is on their own journey and having their own experiences that can be perceived many different ways, depending on your POV,” Fishel said. “Ben and I may be estranged right now, and we may have our complaints about each other, but I will always love Ben and want what’s best for him.”
