Three Months After Opening and Mickey’s Toontown Needs Repairs
It’s only been a few months since a re-imagined Mickey’s Toontown reopened at Disneyland theme park but there have been a few bumps in the road since the neighborhood was unveiled. According to a recent piece in the OC Register, Toontown has been struggling with persistent problems since reopening on March 19, 2023.
Just over the past few months, the artificial turf and rubber flooring have needed to be replaced along with playground equipment and some of the water features in the land. These refurbishments come hot on the heels of a lengthy reimagining that saw Toontown shut down for an entire year.
According to Disneyland Officials, some areas of Mickey’s Toontown may be temporarily unavailable through mid-July for maintenance. Disney said in a statement that it was part of “Disneyland’s commitment to deliver a great guest experience.”
According to the piece in the Register, signs of construction work can currently be seen around the artificial turf picnic area of Toontown which is now covered behind a black scrim. Another feature of the new land, Walt Disney’s Dreaming Tree was also recently shut down while Disneyland crews replaced the Centoonial Park flooring.
We’ve also heard reports that the popcorn kiosk next to Mickey’s House is currently out of service but is expected to reopen shortly. Altogether it looks like Disneyland is grappling with several issues related to Toontown construction.
If you’ll remember the water play area at Donald Duck’s house didn’t open with the rest of Toontown and STILL isn’t operational.
It also looks like Chip ‘n’ Dale’s Gadget Coaster has its own version of the Yeti. As you can see from the image above, Chip is supposed to shoot water through a giant straw as you zip around on the coaster but guests have yet to see this in action.
Disneyland has even removed some elements from the land after only a few months. For example, the birdhouse was removed from Goofy’s yard as well as some of the teeter toters.
According to the OC Register, even the Mickey and Minnie fountain located at the center of ToonTown has been dealing with ongoing rust issues with parts of the water feature not functioning properly.
It’s unclear what exactly is happening at Mickey’s Toontown. Some of this can be chalked up to high traffic and teething problems but it seems like a lot is going wrong in the land after just a few months after its big reopening.
This is a story that we will continue to follow closely. Readers are encouraged to keep checking back with us for further Disneyland news and updates. You can also check out the full OC Register article here.
