Welcome back to our continuing journey though Disney’s past. Today we are looking at the events on this day in Disney history- June 18.
June 18th was a big day in Disney history, with the debut of a new Disneyland parade, the first ceremony at the Walt Disney World Wedding Pavilion, and the release of Pixar classic. So, let’s get started!
Casey Bats Again Released (1954)
On this day in 1954, the Disney short Casey Bats Again was released.
The short was a sequel to the Casey at the Bat short, and told the story of Casey’s new team made but of his nine daughters.
Disney’s Eyes In Outer Space Released (1959)
On this day in 1959, Disney’s Eyes in Outer Space was released.
Directed by Ward Kimball, the film combined live-action and animation to explain the future of satellites.
Flights of Fantasy Debuts (1983)
On this day in 1983, the Disneyland parade Flights of Fantasy debuted.
The new procession celebrated the opening of New Fantasyland!
Mickey’s Birthdayland Opens (1988)
On this day in 1988, Mickey’s Birthdayland officially opened at the Magic Kingdom!
The new land was dedicated by actress Cindy Williams and First Lady Nancy Reagan. The land, which was built in honor of Mickey’s 60th birthday, allowed guests to explore the mouse’s house!
Disney’s Wedding Pavilion Hosts First Wedding
On this day in 1995, the first wedding was performed at Walt Disney World’s Wedding Pavilion.
The new Victorian-style structure was constructed next to Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort.
Animazement- The Musical Opens (1998)
On this day in 1998, Disney’s Animazement- The Musical opened in the Fantasyland Theater at Disneyland.
The show featured songs from different animated features released between 1989 and 1997.
Tarzan Released (1999)
On this day in 1999, Disney’s Tarzan was released.
Based on the novel Tarzan of the Apes by Edgar Rice Burroughs, the film featured five songs written by Phil Collins.
Phil of the Future Premiers (2004)
On this day in 2004, Phil of the Future premiered on the Disney Channel.
The sitcom told the story of a family from 2121 who have to try and fit in in the year 2004.
Toy Story 3 Released (2010)
On this day in 2010, Pixar’s Toy Story 3 was released.
The film continued the story of Woody, Buzz, and the gang, as Andy prepares to go to college.
Cars 2 Premieres (2011)
On this day in 2011, Cars 2 premiered at the El Capitan Theatre in Hollywood.
A sequel to 2006 Pixar film Cars. In the sequel, Lightning McQueen and Mater travel to Japan and Europe to compete in the World Grand Prix!
Phase II Of The Art of Animation Opens (2012)
On this day in 2012, the second phase of the Art of Animation Resort opened at Walt Disney World.
The resort’s Cars area was now available to guests, letting them spend time in Radiator Springs.
The Main Street Bakery Reopens (2013)
On this day in 2013, the Main Street Bakery reopened as the Magic Kingdom’s Starbucks location.
While the location was the first Starbucks located in Walt Disney World, more locales would open at all four parks.
Big City Greens Premiers (2018)
On this day in 2018, Big City Greens premiered on the Disney Channel.
The show focused on Cricket Green, an optimistic country boy who movies to the big city with his family.
Luca Debuts (2021)
On this day in 2021, Pixar’s Luca was released on Disney+.
Set on the Italian Riviera in 1963, the film centers on Luca Paguro, a sea monster boy who has the ability to assume human form while on land.
